The Calm After The Storm…
Looking back on my previous blog post, it feels strange blogging having finished everything that was going on at the time; it was pretty hectic as you may or may not know so time for a quick re-cap.
Firstly, the crazy 10 week project in which me and a group of coursemates had to rebrand an iconic 1970′s product through a viral game and website is now officially over and handed in! We chose to rebrand the viewmaster, and I’m really chuffed and proud of the results. If you’re interested, you can take a look at the finished article using the link below:
I can proudly state that the entire website was created solely by myself and it is, without a doubt, the most complex site I have created so far in my interactive career. 10 weeks seems to have passed so quickly but I have learnt such a vast amount in that time. In particular, my knowledge in PHP and MySQL has grown considerably. For those of you who haven’t clicked the link just above. Here’s the dime tour:
• Server-side validation on all forms
• Individual personalised profile pages, populated by data inputted by the members themselves
• A communal image sharer combining an upload form and flash webcam
• An online forum complete with voting system to determine popular comments
• Badges that are achieved by contributing to the site and playing the game
That’s just to name a few things I’ve learnt (If you want to see more, I highly recommend the aforementioned link above ;])
Moving on, my other big news is that I finally have a placement sorted! This is probably the thing I am most excited about at the moment for a couple of reasons. 1) The company specialise in coding languages and products that I am extremely fascinated about, and 2) I will finally get a taste of what real industry work and standards is like. I honestly can’t wait. In fact, I’m so excited I haven’t actually mentioned who I will be working for! It is the great duo of Gavin and Siobhan at Fishrod, graduates from the same course that I am on now who are stationed in the enterprise pavilion. Their new website has recently been launched too, which you can take a look at below:
Many thanks to them again for taking me on =].
Another minor thing that has taken place recently is that I have been presenting a show on FM radio! Me and my coursemate and friend Tom hosted a late breakfast show twice a week in march on our university’s radio station, Nerve* Radio. It was an incredible experience and, once I have my hands on them, you will be able to have a listen yourselves on this very website! (stay tuned for more info…see what I did there?…nevermind…)
SO, the obvious next question is; what next? Well in true IMP style, there will be no real easter rest for me. I will be making some pretty significant changes to this website, incorporating some the PHP I have learnt recently, and adding a bit more ‘me’ to the site. Also, I have to start thinking about what I want to write about for my dissertation. A big decision not to be made lightly, but no doubt you will hear all about it once I’ve decided! And who knows, I may get a rest one day…but what fun would that be?
